Udupi: Paryaya Invitation Row - Slighted Puttige Mutt Swamiji to Fast in Protest

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jan 16: Feeling insulted and humiliated by Sode Mutt Swamiji Sri Vishwavallabhateertha’s stand not to invite him for the Paryaya celebrations being held on January 18 and 19 this year, Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji of Puttige Mutt has announced his decision to observe a day’s fast from 9 am on Tuesday January 17, to 5 am the next day.

It may be recalled that Sode Mutt Swamiji, who surprisingly broke the tradition of Sri Krishna Mutt of paying obeisance to the presiding deities of the individual Mutts and inviting the heads of all the heads of Mutts for his Paryaya enthronement festival, singled out Puttige Mutt Swamiji for giving a snub. Not only was the name of Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji’s left out in the formal invitation printed by Sode Mutt, Sri Vishwavallabhateertha also skipped the customary visit to Puttige Mutt to pay obeisance to the deity there, Lord Panduranga Vittala.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday January 15, Puttige Swamiji announced that he will undertake protest fast near Madhwacharya’s idol in Lord Ananteshwara Temple next to Sri Krishna Mutt for a day as above. “The boycott placed on me is neither justified, nor in line with the traditions of Sri Krishna Mutt. In terms of social considerations too, this behaviour is unhealthy. Even after I extended an open invitation to Sode Mutt Swamiji to come and invite me for Paryaya, he cold-shouldered my advances,” he said.

The Swamiji added that Pejavar Swamiji told him that he had talked to Sode Mutt Swamiji on the issue and asked him to personally extend invitation to the former, and that the Sode Swamiji refused to budge.

“It is clear that the head of Krishnapura Mutt is opposed to my presence at Paryaya Darbar. I feel that Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt, senior-most Swamiji here, has not been showing the will power to ensure that the tradition of the Mutt is not given a go by. I understand that Pejavar Swamiji, Sri Samyamindra Acharya and Rajagopalacharya of Mantralaya, are in talks to tide over the problem. I have noticed that Pejavar Swamiji has not evinced total interest in the matter, nor has he held a firm and honest stand on the issue. If he makes up his mind, everything will fall in line. So, I have decided to undertake protest fast,” he explained.

hi all... i wanna clear few points... customs are customs.. its must.. one should follow it.. sri madhwacharya made some customs and rules for better soceity... so all should follow it... if one seer allowed to travel outside the world, next all wil go.. puttige seer went there to make money.. not any dharma prachar.. he gets donations in dollers so.. and doin dharma prachar in other countries is not right... i cant go to others house and tell them about my dharma... SEER SHOULD WORK TO SAVE DHARMA,NOT ON EXPANDIN DHARMA... in india only there r many places where our hindu dharma is in danger.. conversion is seen.. so puttige seer shpuld visit such places and work there... thats his duty.. SRI SHANKARACHARYA ALSO DID THE SAME.. HE FIGHT AGAINST BUDHISTS AND SAVED HINDU DHARMA... IF HE WAS NOT BORN WHOLE INDIA WOULD HAV BEEN BUDHISM COUNTRY... so all seer hav their own boundry.. one must work within such boundries.. if puttige seer allowed today, tomo many other seer go abroad to make money... they forget there duty here in india.. as our veda says india is karma bhoomi.. all other countries r bhoga bhoomies.. so seers duty is to save karma bhoomi.. not work in bhoga bhoomi.. instead of savin our house, puttige seer went to others house to tell about our house rules... i dont consider puttige seer as madhwa seer as he is not following basic rule given by madhwacharya.. then he has no rights to spread madhwacharyas principles.. and there is no reason to blame both sode and krishnapur seer.. as both r savin our culture and madhwa customs given by madhwacharya.. if someone break the rule he is meant to b punished.. other wise he wont understand his mistakes... one must think of future too.. rules will b same 4 all seers.. read history and give comments... puttige seers duty is to obey shastra not break it.. but he broke it.. so he has done mistake.. punishment is must.. good thing is ignore him.. :)

Puttige Seer is unnecessarily creating rift. Well, he is going abroad. Let him. He has broken a tradition. Sode Seer has broken a tradition in not inviting Puttige seer. Leave it at it. Why make an issue expecting an invitation ? Several times he has skipped paryaya, even after an invitation was extended.

Dharma prachara with vishaala hrudaya will bloom not otherwise.

Sanyasis are considered epitomes of patience and free of egos. But this episode shows that it is not. They should know how to forgive and not show off their egos.

If going out of the country and spreading Madhwa siddanthas is wrong then there is no meaning for the word Swamiji. Puthige Swamiji is gone to America and spreader of Madhwa Siddantha there then other Udupi Pitadhi pathi's should be appreciate Puthige Sri's work. Unfortunately this is not happening...Major person behind this is Krishnapura Swamiji...he should be ashamed to do this silly things by sitting in that Pita. I beg Lord Krishna And Mukhyapraana to give justice to Puthige Shree.

    C K DAYANANDA, MANGALURU,
It is true it is only 5% population is Brahmins. In all the fields like struggle for freedom or fight against social evils, they were the leaders. In all the political party leadership like Congress, Communists or any old parties they were in leadership. They were leaders because they had the education from years. They were the beurocrats who ever was the ruler, Hindu Muslim or British. Even now 80% of beurocrates are brahmins. Most justices, CVC, Election commission everybody is brahmin.

My dear C K DAYANANDA, MANGALURU,

True, brahmins are only 5% of Indian population, but they control more than 80% of media, and politics. Starting from TOI, The Hindu, to other small publication in print and electronic media all controlled by Brahmins. Why??? Should not Brahmins only control 5% of media and politics? What about BJP and congress? Percentagewise how many OBC's, minorities, and SC/ST's are there in the upper echeleoans of power in both political parties?

Seperate food for Brahmins to do their "bussiness!!!"? Whether your so called Shastra permit you to sell "Anna Brahma?"

    MOHAN,

If you read the history of India, more recently of the freedom struggle, with a 5% population, the Brahmins have contributed immensely for this country.

Had His Holiness Sode Mutt Sri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji traveled abroad and seen the world around, such myopic attitude of excluding the learned Swamiji of Puttige Mutt would not have occured to Him. Or is He too young at 21 to understand and respect the elders?

I request all devotees(staying outside India) of Sri Lord Krishna to boycott Krishnapur mutt and Sodhe mutt. These swamiji need to let go of their personal ego and invite the swamiji of Puttige mutt who was gracious enough to visit USA back in 1992 and do yeomen services. I don't see any harm in swamiji going abroad and giving spiritual advice...shows the narrow mindness of sode swami

Leaving Puttige mutt swamiji out of paryaya celebrations by Sode mutt will lead to division, and retaliation harming the community with in. All the Asta mutt heads should join together and find a way out. The senior Pejavar mutt swamy must take lead and solve this issue before it is too late to reconcilation.

With regard to mdmello's [toronto] comments on seperate meal row for Brahmins in mutts and temples.

Seperate canteen and other special facilities are provided to utives due to their high position in business establishments. This is done for their past services and to enable them to concentrate on business and administration.

One takes birth in a Brahmin family as a result of pious acts done in several previous births.

Recognising this our Shastras have given special status to Brahmins in the spiritual world and have given several facilities to them so that they continue the spiritual sadhana for the welfare of his own as also for the community at large.

Protection and respect to Cows and Brahmins [Go-Brahmana] is one of the basic duties laid down in our Shastras.

Politicians and Communists speak of equality but they themselves do not practice it. They could not bring equality but in the process spoiled the social fabric of the society.

In God's creation there is no equality at all as can be seen in this world of rich and poor, intelligent and non-intelligent etc. etc.

Brahmins have never demanded special status. If the society gives, they will accept it. Even if it does not, they will always bless-

Swamijis command a respectable status in society and the people look up to them as thier role models. They are expected to be broad minded and above all politics, ego, self centredness, hatred and communal feelings. We are saddened and disappointed to see the contraversies involving the senior and respectable swamijis.

This shows the real character and political mind of Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejavar. He is more involved in Govt affairs and state politics than showing his maturity especially in times of crisis under his own jurisdiction. This reflects really bad on his personality and culture. He has let down bitterly the trust and respect people had in him, his seniority and his position in society.

All Swamijis devote their life for real cause but not spread hatred towards any living nature. But few of them forget their basic principle of life too. When I bow my head in front of these Swamijis what I will be blessed with hatred? In that case these Swamijis loose social respects too. Fasting for one day to observe your protest? No Swamiji, you have to fast till death to purify your body first
