Lost teen reunited with family after 13 yrs: Udupi police trace missing boy from Mundkur to B'luru

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Oct 8: In an incredible turn of events, a 13-year-old missing case from Udupi district has finally been solved.

Back in December 2012, 16-year-old Ananth Krishna Prabhu, son of Prabhakar Prabhu from a village near Mundkur, had left home saying he was going to the temple — but never returned. At the time, he was a first-year Pre-University student at Vidyavardhaka PU College, Mundkur. His sudden disappearance left his family heartbroken, and a missing person’s complaint was filed at Karkala rural police station.

For years, despite several efforts, there was no trace of Ananth. Time passed, and hopes began to fade — until recently, when a special investigation team reopened the case.

The team, led by Prabhu D T, deputy superintendent of police, Udupi sub-division, and comprising Sudarshan Dodamani, police sub-inspector, Brahmavar; Eeranna Shiragumpi, police sub-inspector, Udupi town; HC Imran, HC Chetan, PC Santosh Devadiga, and PC Mallayya Hiremath, pursued multiple leads and pieced together clues that ultimately pointed to Bengaluru.

After extensive investigation, the team successfully located Ananth Krishna Prabhu, now 29, living in Bengaluru.

This heartwarming reunion marks the end of a 13-year-long mystery and stands as a testament to the perseverance of Udupi district police. Their dedication has brought closure and joy to a family that had been waiting for over a decade.

Police officials expressed their satisfaction in solving one of the district’s longest pending missing cases — proof that no case is ever forgotten.

If he left home at the age of 16, how come he didnt come back home ? I am sure at that age he would have known where is native home and family members are. 13 years he avoided family. There may be a reason. It cant be a missing case. May be parents and family would have searched but the boy didnt make any efforts to go back home…or be in touch with them. He wasnt a small kid without the intelligence of not knowing where his family located.

Hats off to the Udupi police team for their relentless efforts in tracing the missing boy from Mundkur and reuniting him with his family after 13 years! Truly commendable work. It must be a huge relief for his parents. Personally, I feel his distancing from his parents is not acceptable.

It doesn’t appear to be a missing person case. He was 16 years old when he left, he must have chosen to leave his family voluntarily.
