Mangaluru: Constitution Day & Ambedkar commemoration held at St Aloysius College

Mangaluru, Dec 6: The All College Student Union – Mangalore Division, in collaboration with St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), successfully organised the 75th National Constitution Day and Commemoration of Dr B R Ambedkar at Robert Sequeira Hall this morning.

The programme was formally inaugurated by offering flowers to the portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolising knowledge, justice, and enlightenment.

The event began with a welcome note by Dravya T S, divisional vice-president of the All College Student Union. This was followed by the reading of the preamble, led by Muliya Sathwik, divisional president. The Constitution Day oath was then administered by Rayyan Zahi Khan, vice chancellor’s nominee, St Aloysius College.

Dr Charles Furtado, director of the administrative block, presided over the programme and delivered the Presidential address, emphasising the continuing relevance of constitutional values in shaping civic responsibility among youth.

This was followed by an address by the guest of honour, Maria Shaila D'Souza, assistant professor, Department of Political Science, who spoke about cultivating a spirit of inclusiveness and unity as envisioned by Dr B R Ambedkar.

The chief guest and Keynote speaker, Nandakishore Polya, advocate, Mangalore District Court, delivered an insightful keynote on the importance of the Constitution, the significance of fundamental duties, and the responsibility of every citizen in upholding democratic principles. His talk highlighted the Constitution as a living document that guides the nation’s progress.

A panel discussion followed, featuring students and faculty members, where topics related to constitutional rights, duties, justice, and social harmony were actively deliberated.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Muliya Sathwik, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, students, and collaborators.

The ceremony ended with the National Anthem, reaffirming collective respect towards the Constitution of Bharat.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across the division and served as a meaningful tribute to the architect of the Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar.
