Mangaluru, Apr 22: Panambur police on Wednesday arrested a notorious rowdy-sheeter who had been absconding after a robbery near Tannirbhavi beach earlier this month.
The arrested individual has been identified as Chandu Haris (33), a resident of Kasba Bengre. According to the police, Haris is a habitual offender with over 30 cases registered against him and was already on the rowdy-sheet at the Panambur police station. He also had three pending warrants issued by the court in previous cases.

Background of the case
The robbery occurred in the early hours of April 13. The complainant, Ajay K (29) from Somwarpet, Madikeri, had traveled to Mangaluru with his friends Ramesh and Rafiq to celebrate his birthday at Tannirbhavi beach.
Around 2:30 am, while searching for the beach, they lost their way and headed toward Kasba Bengre.
The group stopped their car to ask for directions from two youths walking on the roadside. The youths offered to guide them and sat in the back seat of the car. After a short distance, they ordered Ajay to stop the vehicle. The duo then brandished a screwdriver, threatened to stab the occupants, and smashed the car’s front windshield.
The accused forcibly snatched valuables worth Rs 24,500, including a Titan watch, a Fastrack watch, a camera gimbal, a power bank, a rolled-gold bracelet, and Rs 2,000 in cash. Chandu Haris then arrived at the spot on a motorcycle, collected the looted items from his accomplices, and helped them escape. Including the damage to the car, the total loss was estimated at Rs 32,500.
Panambur Police Inspector Saleem Abbas, under the guidance of senior officials and assisted by PSIs Srikala K T and Jnanashekara, launched a swift investigation. On the day of the incident (April 13), the police successfully apprehended two of the accused, Mohammed Sinan (24) and Zaheer Nisar (22), both residents of Kasba Bengre. A gimbal, a Titan watch, and the screwdriver used in the crime were recovered from them at that time.
Chandu Haris, however, had managed to evade arrest until today. Following his capture on April 22, the police recovered the remaining stolen items, including a smartwatch and a power bank, along with the TVS Apache motorcycle used in the crime.
The accused has been produced before the court following the completion of the investigation procedures.
