Udupi: Rowdy-sheeter, alleged ‘Garuda Gang’ member detained under Goonda Act

Udupi, Apr 24: A 25-year-old rowdy-sheeter from the Byndoor police station limits, identified as Mohammed Alfaz, has been detained under the Goonda Act. The detention follows an order issued by the District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district on Friday, April 24.

Alfaz is a resident of Janata Colony, Arehole Cross, Kirimanjeshwara village in Byndoor taluk, and was also residing near Ram Mandir on Siddanaikana Road in Kundapur town.

According to the police, Alfaz is an active member of the notorious “Garuda Gang” and has been involved in multiple criminal activities across Udupi and the neighbouring Uttara Kannada district.

Cases registered against him span several police stations, including Shirva, Gangolli, Byndoor, Udupi Town, Kundapur Rural, Kundapur Town, and Bhatkal Town. The charges include two cases of attempt to murder, one robbery, one attempted robbery, one assault, two cases of unlawful assembly, one kidnapping, and one case under the NDPS Act related to drug peddling, totalling 10 cases.

Of these, Alfaz has been acquitted in one case, while eight are currently under trial and one remains under investigation.

The detention order was issued based on a detailed report submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Udupi district. Following the order, the accused has been lodged in the Shivamogga Central Prison.
