Mangaluru: 127 loads of illegally stored sand seized, case registered against two

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A case has been registered at Bajpe police station against Anvith and Rajendra Menda for allegedly illegally extracting sand from the Phalguni river and stockpiling it for sale at Malali Sankesha in Mogaru village.

Acting on credible information, Bajpe police inspector Balakrishna conducted a raid at the location in the presence of witnesses. During the operation, the police found approximately 20 loads of sand illegally stored in an open space on the right side of the road leading towards the Phalguni river. The sand was seized.

Proceeding further along the Banattadi Road, the police discovered around 50 loads of sand illegally stockpiled on a hillock, which were also seized. Further inspection led to the seizure of an additional 5 loads of sand at another location, followed by 22 loads at a nearby site. Near the Seetharama Bhajana Mandir, approximately 30 loads of sand were found stored in an open space on the left side of the road.

In total, 127 loads of sand that had been illegally stockpiled at various locations were seized in the presence of witnesses. Police estimated the value of the seized sand at around Rs 6.35 lac.

According to the police, the accused had allegedly extracted sand illegally from the Phalguni river without paying royalty to the government and had stored it with the intention of selling it without any valid licence. A case has been registered at Bajpe police station, and further investigation is underway.
