Dakshina Kannada, Udupi on orange alert from Jun 26 as monsoon intensifies

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jun 23: Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts have been placed under an orange alert as the southwest monsoon is expected to regain strength across Karnataka over the next few days. According to the latest weather forecast, widespread rainfall is likely across the state, with orange and yellow alerts issued for several districts.

After remaining largely inactive last week, the monsoon has become active once again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast increased rainfall across Karnataka this week, prompting weather warnings in multiple districts.

Rainfall activity is expected to increase across the state until June 25, during which yellow alerts have been issued for several regions. However, rainfall intensity is likely to be particularly high along the coast on June 26.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada districts on June 26. A yellow alert has also been issued for a total of 12 districts, including Uttara Kannada and several parts of the Malnad region. The remaining districts of the state are expected to receive moderate rainfall.

The coastal districts of Karnataka are likely to witness a slight revival of monsoon activity from June 22. While normal rainfall is expected from June 24, the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase further from June 26.

Good rainfall has also been forecast in places adjoining the coastal districts in Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru districts. Other areas are likely to receive normal rainfall. Shivamogga district is expected to experience cloudy conditions and light drizzle in some places.

Monsoon activity is expected to strengthen slightly in the Malnad districts from June 27 onward. Until then, normal rainfall is likely to continue in the region.

Weather experts have indicated that favourable atmospheric conditions are developing over the Arabian Sea to support the movement of monsoon winds. As a result, monsoon activity is expected to show signs of revival from June 26.

The anticipated return of rainfall has brought relief to farmers and the public, who were affected by the dry spell during the past week. However, with the possibility of heavy rainfall, people in coastal and Malnad regions have been advised to remain cautious.

Residents are also advised to plan their travel and other activities keeping in mind the uncertainty associated with the monsoon season. Authorities have urged the public to remain alert to possible weather-related disruptions across most parts of the state over the next three days.
