Udupi, June 23: The body of a 28-year-old youth from Pithrody, who allegedly died by suicide after jumping into the river from the Udyavara Bridge, was recovered following an extensive search operation on Tuesday, June 23.

The deceased has been identified as Harshith Shetty, a resident of Pithrody in Udyavara.

According to sources, Harshith left home at around 5 am, informing his family that he was going to play cricket at the Bolargudde grounds. However, his failure to return home prompted deep concern among relatives.

His mobile phone was found switched off, and his two-wheeler was later discovered abandoned on the Papanashini river bridge, raising immediate fears that he had plunged into the water.

An intensive search operation was subsequently launched. Renowned diver Eshwar Malpe and his team, alongside local volunteers, scoured the river and eventually retrieved the body.

Harshith, who was employed at a cooperative society in Malpe, is survived by his parents and two brothers.

A police investigation into the incident is currently under way.
