Puttur, Jun 24: Uppinangady police have finally succeeded in tracing and arresting a man accused of fleeing with a motorcycle after allegedly gaining the owner's trust under the pretext of friendship and borrowing the vehicle to visit a temple.
The accused had been hiding in Gaalimukha, a border region between Karnataka and Kerala. Police have taken him into custody and recovered the motorcycle.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Shyam G Krishnan (31), had been staying in a lodge located in the same building as Sri Devi Sticker Cuttings Centre at Rajadhani Towers, owned by Sheenappa Mugera. On June 16, Shyam allegedly requested the bike, telling the owner, “Please lend me the bike once. I will deliver clothes to my family members at a temple and return within two minutes.” He then left with the motorcycle and subsequently went missing.

However, the accused reportedly continued to call Sheenappa regularly and demand money. Although a complaint had been lodged with the police, the accused had remained untraceable. Public dissatisfaction had grown after seven days passed without any arrest in the case.
Police have now arrested the accused and recovered the motorcycle from his possession.
Responding to the development, Uppinangady police sub-inspector Suthesh said that an error related to the phone number had caused some delay in tracking the case. He also cautioned the public against handing over vehicles, mobile phones, Aadhaar details, or other important documents to strangers. He further warned that using money received in one’s bank account through unknown persons could inadvertently lead to involvement in criminal activities. He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and exercise caution in such matters.
