Mangaluru, June 28: Commuters travelling between Mangaluru and Ulaibettu received much-needed relief as vehicular traffic resumed on the newly completed Parari–Ulaibettu Bridge at Saale Melmane after the remaining construction work was completed on a war footing. The bridge was opened to traffic on Friday.

Constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 5 crore, the bridge project had remained under construction for nearly eight months.

The slow pace of work had drawn criticism from local residents, who were forced to endure prolonged inconvenience due to delays in completing the project.

During the construction period, motorists were diverted through a temporary road linking Ulaibettu and Mangaluru. The makeshift stretch had become muddy and difficult to navigate, particularly during the rainy season, causing considerable hardship to commuters and residents alike.

With the completion of the long-pending bridge, normal traffic movement has now been restored, bringing relief to the public and ending months of travel difficulties caused by the delayed infrastructure project.
