Sullia: Electric pole left in middle of newly concretised road triggers safety concerns

Sullia, June 29: A road improvement project in Sullia town has come under scrutiny after authorities concretised a stretch of road without relocating an electricity pole, leaving it standing in the middle of the carriageway and prompting concerns over public safety.

The recently concretised stretch is located below the Government General Hospital and leads towards the Government Pre-University College. Instead of shifting the electricity pole before undertaking the work, the road was widened and concretised around the existing pole, triggering criticism from commuters and local residents.

Motorists have expressed apprehension that the pole, left within the carriageway, poses a serious accident risk and could endanger road users.

MLA inspects spot

Following public complaints, MLA Bhagirathi Murulya visited the site to assess the situation. She sought an explanation from officials over why the road was developed without first relocating the electricity pole.

Describing the situation as dangerous, the MLA directed officials to remove and relocate the pole at the earliest to ensure the safety of commuters and facilitate smooth traffic movement.

Matter raised at Guarantee Implementation Committee meeting

The issue also figured prominently during a meeting of the District Guarantee Implementation Committee, where committee president Bharat Mundodi described the matter as a serious lapse requiring immediate attention.

He instructed officials to conduct a detailed inspection and take appropriate action. Mundodi also directed Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Rajanna to ensure that the electricity pole is relocated and necessary corrective measures are implemented without delay.
