Bopanna-Bhupathi, Paes-Stepanek out of Madrid Open


Madrid, May 13 (IANS): India's Rohan Bopanna and Mahesh Bhupathi went down to Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau in the men's doubles semifinals of the Madrid Open tennis tournament here.

The seventh seeds lost 4-6, 6-1, 7-10 to the Swedish-Romanian pair in 76 minutes Saturday. With the win, Lindstedt and Tecau entered their third final of the year.

Earlier in the day, India's Leander Paes playing with Czech partner Radek Stepanek, lost 3-6, 7-6, 2-10 to second seeds Daniel Nestor and Max Mirnyi.

The Canadian-Belarusian combine, however, exited from the tournament after going down to Poland's Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in the semifinals.
