Bangalore, Jun 27: Karnataka’s Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje has urged the Chhattisgarh Government to direct Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation to allocate the required coal of 11 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) to the Godhna power project in that State.

The allocation of call would facilitate in obtaining Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) clearance and commencement of the project, she said in a letter to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Karandlaje said the Union Coal Ministry has already allocated coal blocks for commercial mining to Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation.

Karnataka power corporation Ltd (KPCL) and Chhattisgarh government have signed an agreement for implementation of a pit-head coal fired plant at Godhna in Chhattisgarh.

KPCL had achieved substantial progress in terms of land acquisition and water allocation.

A pact was signed with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for evacuation of power.

''MoEF clearance for the project is kept pending for want of assured source of coal fro the project,” Karandlaje said.
