MS Dhoni evades questions on spot-fixing with a smile

Mumbai, May 28 (Agencies) : India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was bombarded with a volley of questions on spot fixing in the T20 League but he evaded them all with a smile in Mumbai Tuesday. Dhoni, who leads Chennai Super Kings in the T20, was asked three to four questions about the scandal but didn't answer them during the press conference before leaving for the Champions Trophy in England.
During the press conference, Dhoni was also asked if he personally knew Vindoo, but he answered with a smile as a board official seated next to the India captain said "next question please."

Dhoni was also asked why was he keeping mum and skipped two pre-match press conferences during the IPL and also if the spot fixing scandal will have any affect on the players in the Champions Trophy, but he chose to ignore them all.

He also refused to answer when asked if fans can have faith in the Indian team in the Champions Trophy in the midst of the scandal.

Dhoni has been always known for speaking out his mind but he decided to evade questions since the scandal is under police investigations.

Super Kings chief executive Gurunath Meiyappan, who is also the son-in-law of board president N Srinivasan, has been arrested by Mumbai police for his links in the spot fixing scandal.

Gurunath's name was revealed after police arrested Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh Randhawa for spot fixing.

Vindoo was often pictured with Dhoni's wife Sakshi, cheering for Super Kings during the IPL matches.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be setting up a commission to probe Gurunath's role in spot-fixing.

The spot fixing scandal came to light with the arrest of three Rajasthan Royals cricketers - Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila and former India pacer Sreesanth.

By now everybody knows who is involved and who is not. Then why these Media wants to know from MSD’s mouth again? Some time I wonder why we want to see these paid news channels? They spread more incorrect news than real facts. When they come to know that their news was wrong, they don’t even bother to apologize at least. In the name of “Freedom of Press” they take out freedom of others. By removing Srinivasan from President’s Post, will they get any saint in BCCI? Person who waiting to grab the BCCI Top Post is “Pakka Chor” than anybody else. Look at the public who supports Cricket in India, they are ready to pay Rs 750/- minimum charges for any IPL Match Ticket without any second thoughts whereas same people not ready to pay full price of a cooking gas cylinder required at their home!

Dhoni behaviour was as if his family / in-laws involved in the betting. May be because his wife was found with the so called bookies and involved in the scam. He should have commented as BCCI does not own him. He is a Citizen of India and represents India & leads Indian team. We have right of expression you see. Board can not bind you on this

When political heavyweights are silent about Srinivasan and even stalwarts like Farooq Abdulla (BCCI member)supporting the BCCI president can Dhoni open his mouth against his own boss ( India Cements)where he has got his stakes as well.
'In 1960's a Cricketer would earn just Rs 300 /Test Match. He had to depend on his job for survival . Only the Maharaja's could afford to play full time. The Nawab of Pataudi Jr.taught us how to win matches . 1970's saw the era of Ad's and it was not just Brylcream and Palmolive where the earnings were just pennies, but the ad firms- TV that gave cricketers the taste of big money. 1980's :The 1983 world cup win was a watershed as India become Kings in the so called Pyjama One day 60 over cricket . The entry of Match Fixing in its crude form in 1990's soon had its toll on cricket leaders in S.Africa & India. The new century heralded the death knell of Test Cricket and the entry of pyjama less era in cricket - T20 which gratified all big & small. The greed of the Cricketers , those in control of the game , and gamblers knew no end.The few ancient retired Test Cricketers and advocates of the once Gentleman's game were truly bowled over lock stock & barrel by the richest cricket board in the world. Those few who really mattered never objected to the vagaries of T20 and the great temptations it offered the young gullible cricketers were visibly there .

The time has come to save Test Cricket and have a changed & acceptable IPL & IMPORTANLY legalise betting with a body like SEBI to regulate matters . At present it really is obvious that money has indeed silenced all and sundry . Is it not shocking that there is not ONE politician who is involved in Cricket and there is not ONE cricketer that really matters who is ready to call a spade a spade and demand cleanse the dirty pitch. Just a handful of
small time Cricketers are behind the bars.Cricket owes its existence to the numerous FANS and not the BCCI or even MSD. The game is surely bigger.

Dhoni was looking like a crook and silence yet times is dangerous. I suspect Dhoni is very much in the scandal. Truth will never die. I am afraid IPL is monster systematically swallowing public money.

Yes..M.S.Dhoni gave us two World Cups.Big salute to him.But my heart doesn't give him a special place like Tendulkar,Dravid,Kumble and Ganguly. His wife was seen sitting with fixing and betting king Vindoo Singh, Dhoni's close friends Suresh Raina,R.P.Singh are under scanner(latest).Dhoni is an opportunitist.
