Riyadh: Rajesh Kumar elected president of KWAR

Riyadh, Jun 11: Rajesh Kumar was elected the president of Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR), during its seventh annual general body meeting held recently at at a community hall (Isthrah) at Exit 18, Al Kharj Road, Riyadh.

The AGM was convened to elect office-bearers for the year 2014-15. In the process, Rajesh Kumar was elected as the president of KWAR for the year 2014-15.


Rajesh Kumar is a founder member of KWAR and working as a branch manager in Al Thaneyan Insurance Brokers Co. Kumar, who hails from Pandeshwar, Mangalore, is an Alumni of Govinda Dasa College Surathkal.

The meeting was conducted by the outgoing president Royston Prabhu. His welcome address was interspersed with wit and humour, which have always been his forte. He succeeded in keeping the crowd fully entertained.

Muzaffer Ali, outgoing general secretary, presented a comprehensive report on the activities of KWAR through PowerPoint. This included reports on cooking festival, cricket tournament and cultural programmes conducted throughout the year. He also covered issues like charity programmes undertaken by KWAR, annual event, future plans, etc. Rajesh Kumar, the outgoing treasurer presented the financial report for the year 2013-14. 

Outgoing vice-president Parvez Ali emphasized on the importance keeping the unity in diversity and respecting each other’s beliefs and views. Outgoing president Royston Prabhu in his speech thanked each and every member of KWAR committee for extending their support during his tenure and urged the office-bearers and committee members to extend their support to the new committee, for success of the organization.

The election committee that took the dais thereafter was chaired by Vijay Rai and Ramesh Shetty. The present committee was dissolved and a new committee with 46 office bearers was formed.

Alfred Fernandes – Joint treasurer
Nelson D’Souza – Internal auditor
Jayanth Salian and Yathiraj Malpe – Public relations officers
Mohammed Nauman – Event coordinator
P M Bhaskar – Cultural secretary
Dilip Kumar – Joint cultural secretary
Satish Amin – Sports secretary
Umesh Shetty and Prashanth Shetty – Joint sports secretary
Vijay Rai, Ramesh Shetty , Royston Prabhu and Parvez Ali – Advisors

Apart from office-bBearers, other 18 members were selected for executive committee.

A month earlier KWAR had formed its own ladies wing and selection of office-bearers was held. Amitha Prabhu was elected unanimously vice-president of KWAR ladies wing.

Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (KWAR) is a non-profit voluntary organization formed with broad objective of doing far-reaching social and community services respecting the human values without any barrier and prejudice, with great regards to the laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to cherish the democratic values of India and rich culture of Karnataka. 

Established in the year 2008 for the purpose of uniting all Karavali people living in Riyadh, has done tremendous work in the fields of community welfare and charity and won many accolades within a short period from its inception.
