Mangalore: Theft at Krishnapura leaves family poorer by Rs 30 lac

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 25: Unknown thieves, in a well-planned and executed operation, succeeded in stealing cash and ornaments worth about Rs 30 lac from a house located in Subhashitnagar, Agarmel near Krishnapura, Suratkal near here. The theft occurred presumably on the night of Monday June 23.

The house in question belongs to Venugopal Shetty, former officer of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. The family was on vacation visit to Mumbai, when the theft occurred. The maid engaged to keep the surroundings clean noticed nothing abnormal during her morning visit on Monday morning, but on Tuesday morning, she saw that the door of the house had been broken open.

After this matter was conveyed to Shetty in Mumbai, his brother visited Suratkal police station and filed a formal complaint. On Tuesday evening, the house owners arrived from Mumbai and provided an exhaustive list of missing items to the policemen. It is learnt that the family had been to Mumbai as Shetty's daughter, Adhwika, had been chosen for the final selection round in the Dance India Dance reality show of Zee TV. Venugopal's wife had left for Mumbai two weeks earlier to be present at the initial rounds of the competition, and Shetty left on June 20, after getting information about his daughter having been selected for the final round.

Sniffer dogs and finger print experts visited the spot. Assistant commissioner of police, Ravikumar, and Suratkal station house officer, M A Nataraj, who inspected the scene of crime, expressed the resolve to crack the case as soon as possible. MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and MLA, B A Mohiuddin Bava, also impressed upon the policemen to work diligently to ensure that the thieves are caught at the earliest.

It is observed that the thieves stole things in a leisurely and methodical manner. They entered the house by breaking open the lock of the kitchen door, before visiting every room, sifting through contents of various cupboards, collecting a number of silver items from there, and opening the locker beneath the puja stand with the key they had accessed from the almirah inside the master bedroom. They left behind a few fancy items and a silver lamp.

The scene at the bedroom of Shetty's daughter appears as if the thieves had poured all the loot there and verified every ornament for its genuineness, before taking away only the genuine ones. Although the thieves took care not to leave behind any clues, the policemen claimed they had gained access to certain thins which they hope will help them nab the culprits.

This theft is completely planned must be.The house owners must have told someone that they will be going to Mumbai for some days.and it was their Chance to do.owners did many mistakes first not having anyone in house during their Absence.second must have known they are not in house, important is leaving back Gold and Money so much worth in house.atleast could have put under a tree.and leaving back key just in house .(for thieves it is not a Problem)but lot is lost.there were no neighbours in nearby and didnt notice or heard.Hope they will get some of it atleast.some sell through Internet.let them lookout.

we know but we never follow and we wakeup when we get lost
•Don't keep huge amount of cash and ornaments in the house. Use Bank lockers.
•Don't keep the keys of the receptacles in which the valuables are kept in the keyhole or nearby places.
•Don't sleep near an open window during the night. A burgler could snach the ornaments from you. Keep your bedroom locked from inside.
•Don't disturb the scene, if you notice theft in your house, wait for the arrival of police otherwise it will lead to tampering of evidence like fingerprints, footprints etc.
•Don't allow any stranger to enter your house, when you are alone without finding out his identity. Beware of persons coming to your house under the pretext of repairing/selling things, conducting meter readings etc.
•Don't wear heavy ornaments while travelling alone.
•Don't open your bag-containing valuable like cash and ornaments, while travelling in public places.
•Don't go alone with cash and jewelry during the nighttime.
•Do not record a message on answering machine telling people you are on holiday or away

please follow and we know it is saying learn from lesson

It seems suratkal is becoming unsafe nowadays.. !! To save our pride I request our MLA follow up the case and put the culprit behind bars. Hope our MLA is capable of providing justice to this innocent family.. I'm surprised by some comments that it is happened due to negligence but it nor illegal to keep valuable in our own house. I strongly believe that theft is a crime and we must not give any reasons to undermine the severity of the crime. I do agree that in unsafe environment people bound to follow some safety measures..

Whether you believe or not. I am telling the truth as told to me by my relatives. My relatives house was burgled last year in Mumbai and only gold worth about Rs 10 lakh was stolen. Police promised them that they would catch the culprits, provided my relatives give them Rs. 5 lakhs !

Someone asked what happened afterwards. In Mumbai, there is a very good network between thieves and police. One example: Some time back a woman came to a police station and cried that her mangalsutra was stolen in a particular area. Since she cried and it was an item of importance to woman, the Inspector may have felt. He immediately called the gang leader and told the woman to go home. Within 2 hours Inspector came to her house and delivered the mangalsutra. In my relative's case, they could not give that amount and the matter was closed as far as they are concerned. But having come to know the theft, the police might have definitely collected their share from the thieves.

When you catch them please leave them on bail, so more robbery takes place and people live in misery. When you catch them give them good punishment to clean full of Mangalore for 10 years if they refused then death penalty. Cops come on do a good job to get the robbers.

    Rightly said.
Gold is now not worth to wear and make a show of your wealth or prosperity.
There are so many thieves and fraudsters all around.
First of all, it is not in everyone 's interest to keep precious items at homes, specially gold.
The time has come to keep that in Bank lockers if you think the price will shoot up.
Why to keep that at home for unwanted trouble.
Judging by the theft, it is 30 lacs worth, I just cant believe it is more than 1 kilo of gold kept at home.. either silly or something fishy or is it insurance claim?
