Mangalore, Jun 27: The foul smell emanating from underneath the passage that connects the in-patient section and the burns section at Wenlock hospital bears disgusting testimony to the massive leakage of drainwater in the premises.

The tale of the OPD section is no different - every which way you look, there is sewage water slowly making its way to the surface of the ground where people walk.

The leakage near the burns section is huge with drain water gushing out from the manhole that was unable to contain the pressure due to the blockade in the age old underground drainage.

Moreover, the nurses and the patients are also adding the agony to the existing burden by dumping the used dressings and the waste clothes callously. Even as the authorities attended to the problem by launching a cleanliness drive, ignorant bunch of people including the patients were seen messing up the place time and again.

Speaking to daijiworld, district surgeon and medial officer Dr Rajeshwari said, "We took swift measures 20 days ago when the problem first arose. This is a very old drainage system due to which the hospital frequently faces such problems."

Currently, the health and family welfare department has granted Rs 25 lac to construct a new underground drainage. After the completion of the project, the problem would be resolved permanently.

Dr Rajeshwari lamented that the hospital building is a century old, and despite many proposals to allot land to shift the hospital nothing has happened. "The sorry state of the hospital and the pain the staff there suffer are not heard by the state government," she added.

Well readers all of you can wait and see the chance will come very soon for stinking whole of Mangalore city in the near future why because the Mangalore city is got lot infrastructures and day by day lot of sky scraper buildings are raising their heads by containing lot of flats malls and all these flat owners daily pumping their lot of human waste in the drainage. As we all know the drainage system of Mangalore is very poor with very narrow pipe which was established some where 50 years ago and now crores of flats come up in Mangalore so how can possible for narrow drainage pipe line allow to pump the huge bulk of human in the drainage pipe line???

Our MCC authorities are blindly daily offering their licenses to the builders to raise their building heads in the Mangalore city. Still MCC had not took the step to replace the old narrow drainage pipe line in the way of broad pipe line to accommodate huge number of human waste. Now it is not so easy way to install new drainage pipe in the city as all most all the roads were concretised by the old BJP MCC authorities so now it is not possible to break open concret roads. Also every where in the Mangalore town lot of water pipes were broke open in the bottom of the concrete roads and our MCC congress corporators are blindly passing their days without taking the strict measures to repair the broken water pipes under the concrete roads. Under the above issues is the MCC authorities can give the explanation to the citizens of Mangalore!!!

Mere neglect for health in a place that should promote health. Sad. I hope someone notices and takes care of the mess.

One thing I noticed about people crying out with the phrase "Acche din". Can they do some retrospection on their own life? I am sure most of them would have joined a new job with the intent of bringing acche din for themselves and their families. Have they in their first month of career turned around the whole system of their life ? Does it not take sometime ? I also agree this might not apply to all of them here.

Be optimistic and everything in the life becomes possible and even the people around you will feel positive and gain hope.

Which or what is a top priority in Mangalore? Should we be proud of emerging high rise structures or stinking surroundings? During my recent visit to the city, I felt that everything is falling apart or crumbling there. Truly sad.
