Restoration of Kuwait-Mangalore direct flights: UAKK delegation meets CM

Media Release

Bangalore, Jun 29: A delegation from United Associations of Karnataka Kuwait (UAKK), an umbrella organization of 12 associations, and prominent Social Workers from coastal Karnataka visited the chief minister of Karnataka Siddaramiah on June 26 in Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore and requested his intervention in aviation ministry of India with regard to the restoration of direct flights to Kuwait – Mangalore sector.

The delegation said that more than 1,30,000 Kuwait-bound passengers from Mangalore, coastal Karnataka and Northern parts of Kerala are put to untold hardships and their flying time has now been extended from 4 to 12 hours since Air India Express wrapped up their flight services to Kuwait - Mangalore sector from February 15 this year. The plight of the aged and families with small kids has become miserable as they have to transit through Mumbai or Bangalore.

Most of the disappointed passengers feel that there was a systematic plan executed by vested interests to cancel the Kuwait-Mangalore flight services and finally they succeeded in victimizing Mangalore passengers by cancelling the flights from February 2014 and all representation to restore the flights fell on deaf ears, the delegation said.

UAKK delegation submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the help of minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar and requested him to garner support from the aviation ministry of India to restore the flights.

On behalf of thousands of Karnataka and northern Kerala NRIs in Kuwait, UAKK earnestly requested the aviation ministry of India to restore the direct flights to Kuwait – Mangalore sector on top priority basis as currently Kuwait is the only Gulf country which does not have direct flights to Mangalore. Considering the difficulties faced by our passengers, the memorandum has also been sent to The Ambassador of India in Kuwait requesting the aviation ministry to reinstate standard airlines to operate direct flight services to Kuwait / Mangalore sector. It has also been mentioned in the memorandum that the aviation ministry and the airlines concerned may also look into the possibility of introducing flight services to Kuwait / Mangalore / Bangalore sector.

UAKK is also planning to meet railway minister Sadananda Gowda and Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

The delegation included UAKK chief coordinator Hasan Yusuf, KKMA Karnataka unit coordinator S M Farooq and coastal Karnataka social worker U M Mohammed.

The way to get a flight from Kuwait to Mangalore best would be to meet all the airways officials, find out what is the problem, and then present the case to the ministers. The owner of Caesar Travels has good contacts with the aviation industry and can help mediate a good business deal.

    Dear all,
Either we have a Kuwait-Mangalore-Kuwait flight, which is really feasible,
or a Kuwait-Mangalore-Bangalore flight, Bangalore-Mangalore-Kuwait flight that will meet the needs of Mangalore/Bangalore passengers.

We should not think of flights heading to Kerala, or that benefit Keralites (at our expense) via Mangalore altogether, and keep the Mallus off our flights to Mangalore, who are the main cause of all the smuggling activities at Mangalore airport.

Mallus have an in born tendency to grab everything that is destined towards Mangalore and coastal area, be it air services or rail services.
Coastal leaders, irrespective of your party, whether in power or out of power, wake up from your deep slumber.

Great Efforts. Thank you very much Mr. Hassan for your efforts. UAKK knocked every doors of coastal MLS’s, MP’s and the Central ministers as soon as the news of possible discontinuation of Kuwait sector. Some have given the assurances but nothing has been done. Some never responded to the memorandums. Few political leaders just made photogenic actions and speeches nothing is done. UAKK is trying their best to restore the direct flights to Mangalore from Kuwait. Few comments says it was not profitable sector. Initial flight schedules were very good. Then slowly because of lobbying they changed the schedule to odd days. For many it was not convenient, hence people could not use this route. Then how it can be profitable if the timings / days are very odd. With all our collective efforts hope AI will restore the flights to Kuwait or Private airlines will start flights to Mangalore soon. All the very best.

Kuwait – Mangalore flight was suspended mainly due to lobbying by Mallus who preferred a non-stop flight to Kozhikode instead of via Mangalore. They even succeeded in diverting Bangalore – Karwar train to Kannur which is actually running at losses, since there are sufficient numbers of trains to B’lore from Kozhikode and Kochi running through other routes. Now there are reports that they are vying to extend the new Madgaon – M’lore express to Kannur.

The excuse for suspending the Kuwait – M’lore flight was losses during off season. If this be the case, the number of flights may be reduced during off season and/or the flights may be diverted via Bahrain, Doha, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi. Now since the MPs of Mangalore and Udupi have gained an upper hand after the recent elections and as the Mallu lobby seems to have weakened considerably, there should not be any difficulty for our leaders and especially the present Civil Aviation Minister to reintroduce the cancelled flights.

For once people are demanding AIX service. Usually it is cursed and abused until some calamity or war or difficulty in the gulf region then every indian wants AI to come to their rescue. The best way to ensure continuity of service by AIX or AI is for UAKK members to support the carrier throughout the year in lean times too just as in peak season as only this way is profitability of the service maintained.

Thanks to Daijiworld for the wonderful support.

Thanks for the valuable and useful comments from some of our well wishers.

Let us hope that step by step collective efforts will have its own good results. The need of the hour is that we Mangaloreans have to unitedly work for this cause and enhance our struggles.

Yes we agree with you that the right way is to approach the Civil Aviation Minister to address this matter. Please note that it has been clearly mentioned in the press release that UAKK is planning to meet the Railway Minister Shri D.V. Sadananda Gowda and MP Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel so that this would be an added value to our efforts to approach and meet our Honorable Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ashok Gajapathi through our Honorable State Civil Aviation Minister Shri G.M. Siddeshwar.

By the way, we have also written a memorandum to our Ambassador H.E. Shri Sunil Jain in Kuwait seeking his help and guidelines (copied to Hon. Civil Aviation Minister) and conveyed the untold hardships of Kuwait bound passengers from coastal Karnataka ad Northern parts of Kerala who depend on Mangalore airport.

Delegation(s) will be planned to meet the Honorable Civil Aviation Minister in the near future. Dear Mangaloreans! Please join hands and support. We need to work with the support of our leaders.

You are correct Hasan....Just a thought...Since we do not have direct flights to Bangalore, why cant aviation ministry think of having direct flights to Bangalore via Mangalore? I had recently travelled to Mangalore via Bangalore and Bangalore being a IT hub and lot of people travelling to Bangalore I feel we should have direct flight to Bangalore as well. Eventually it could boost tourism and medical field as well.

    Dear Roshan,

    Very good opinion.

For your kind info pls note that we have suggested the option of KUWAIT-MANGALORE-BANGALORE Sector during UAKK meetings with Jet Airways in Kuwait and communicated the same to Jet Airways GM-Middle East. Even we have suggested this option in all our memorandums/communication to Aviation Ministry, Jet Airways Management, H.E. Indian Ambassador in Kuwait and in the recent memorandum to our CM.

With due respect to all who took decision to wind up KWI-IXE sector and those who reason that this sector is not profitable, please analyze through RTI what is the basis of retaining KWI-Calicut sector. These flights can be used in a sharing mode till AIE increases their fleet to provide a reasonable itinerary to Mangalore sector.
Hope to see the day soon.

What this useless CM can do for you? I don't think he has understood what you have requested. His face expression tells that.

Better contact GM Siddeshwara through Nalin or DVS. Your demand will be fulfilled soon. Even if you directly contact DVS that is also very good.

I am not unnecessarily praising DVS here because I am BJP Supporter. He took oath as RM a month ago. And following are his achievements so for.

    1. Railway Yatri Sangha had written to DVS to extend Bhatkal-Mlore DEMU till Madgoan, which is in the verge of cancellation due to poor passenger patronage. DVS responded immediately and from July 1st, that is tomorrow, train will be running between Madgoan and MAQ.

    2. Train No 16523/4 Bnagalore-Karwar express will have revised time table from August 15th with cut short journey hours. At least 1 - 1:30 hours will be reduced. No CONGI BUS CHELAS can influence our PEOPLE FRIENDLY Govt on this matter.

    3. New Yeshwantpur - Mangalore/Karwar night train via ASK will chug off in 2 months.

    4. Separate Railway Division is on anvil.

I totally agree with Dinesh. Please note we have an Minister of Aviation from our State. We should make a proper representation and not to Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Moreover Sadanand Gowda can co-ordinate with Minister of Aviation for early start of Kuwait Mangalore flight.

Railway Minister has been a silent cat and as informed by Mr. Dinesh he took some good decisions without talking much. According to reliable source Mangalore will be merged with Konkan Railway and Karwar region office will be shifted to Mangalore. Jurisdiction will be upto Ullala Railway station. A new division under SWR is not possible for the time being due to Financial Constraints. Already Sudha Krishnamurthy has been made deputed as Manager PRO KR based in Mangalore.

First all I should appriciate the efforts of UAKK trying for direct flights to Mangalore. Mr Hasan Yusuf and his team great job and great efforts but the wrong channel.
Let me tell you few points why kuwait flight stopped operations
    1. There were no aircrafts to operate some sector since some leased aeroplanes were going returning back
    2. The loads in this sector was not satisfying it is only seasonal load and the airline was not doing good.
    3. I am really grateful to captPP Singh ex CEO of AIX who had given this sector seeing the satisfying loads of Dubai since Dubai was profitable sector.
    4. Last month I personally spoke to the New CEO Mr Sunder who is quite honest and helpful here is his comment:
Due to aircraft constraints, there is no possibility of restoring the KWI - IXE flights in the short term. In any case the flight was a marginal one in terms of profitability perhaps due to the longer sector length and low fares.
5.UAKK if you can promise that the flights can make profits in this sector surely I will be there with you and support you.... dont allow the Airline to Bleed...

    Mr. Rajesh Sequiera,
Yes I agree with you.No airline will run on a loss, Even if jet was there they would also have done the same thing. So my friends we have to be a bit realistic on this.In submitting a request to the CM is not wrong,But the CM also will ask the airlines about this.Lets hope this sector restores again.
Mr. Rajesh as struggled a lot to open these sectors specially Dubai -Mangalore...good job from Rajesh..
So what he has commented is logic.

    Dear Rajesh,
Appreciate your comments. Just a suggestion....Why cant aviation ministry think of direct flights to Bangalore via Mangalore? I am sure ministry can still work out different options. Jet Airways would come out with some options if at all given a chance.

CM's authority stops at only giving different Bhaagya schemes like Shaadhi and chor at the expense of tax payers money. For the rest the delegation should meet civil aviation Ministry for their appeal. They will examine the merits and demerits of the appeal by looking into the matter.
