Karkala: Bhuvanendra College celebrates ‘60th Wildlife Week’

Karkala, Oct 1: “To maintain equilibrium in nature, conserving the plant biomass is essential. Forests are declining. Man-animal conflicts have increased. The forest department will take proper measures with regard to this. As the elephant menace has increased, the state government has proposed to release Rs 212 crore to build an iron fence using old railway tracks at the places where the menace is severe. Already, it has been implemented in Nagarhole and Bandipur forest area,” said B Ramanatha Rai, state minister for forest, environment, and ecology.

He was addressing the celebration of the ‘60th Wildlife Week’ organized by Kudremukh Wild life Division and Bhuvanendra College, Karkala, at Galaxy Multi Purpose Convention hall on Wednesday October 1.

Rai said, “The government will provide 50 percent subsidy to farmers who wish to put up solar fencing around their fields. Forest resources should be properly utilized. The government will also launch the 'Sirichandana' programme in all districts to preserve the Sandalwood trees.”

Former MLA Gopal Bhandary also spoke on this occasion.

Karakala Muncipal Council president R Rahmath Karkala, Vinay Luthra, principal, Hanumanthappa, chief forest conservator, and R G Bhat were present on this occasion.
