Bengaluru, Jun 7: The response for their strike was fast this time. The management of GVK which runs the 108 ambulance service treated the matter as emergency.

The staff of 108 ambulance service called off their strike on Saturday afternoon as soon as their pending salaries were paid. They resumed the service without any delay.

More than 730 ambulances were off the road when the staff decided to go on strike on Friday night demanding salary arrears for two months. The management of GVK which runs the service in the state responded on Saturday afternoon to the woes of the workers and paid them the pending dues. The strike was called off immediately.

As per the sources from the union, more than 3000 persons are working for the 108 ambulance service. The promise of paying salary in time was not kept and the salaries for the two months were delayed putting the families of the workers in dilemma. As most of them had to pay their children’s fees, they faced an extra burden in addition to other expenses like rent and food.

The union state secretary Pandappa said the strike was necessary as there was no other way out and it was not intended to inconvenience the public.
