Mangalore, Oct 28: Globalisation is a big challenge to the ideologies upheld by the Indian Constitution, declared Tenkanidiyur government college lecturer Dr Gananatha Ekkar at a State level study camp of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha samiti (DSS) held here, on Saturday October 27.

Dr Ekkar at the camp spoke on the new economic policy of India. While on the second day of the camp he spoke on the impact of globalization. According to him globalization has been axing the indispensable principles of Indian Constitution like equality and right against exploitation.

Modernization has done little to discourage caste hierarchy. One finds globalization is uprooting the very schemes which are meant for equality including reservation policy. Modernization is a process of incorporating the elements of scientific development into human life, he pointed out.

Further according to Ekkar no one is against modernization, if it is perceived in its correct sense but we have to oppose globalization which is a destructive phenomenon. Although IT development in India is taking place on a large scale, at the same time illiteracy still exists and is in-fact growing in the country. From this one can decide how dangerous globalization is, he opined.

Ekkar stressed that destroying a particular language is nothing but destroying the entire life and culture. In this context, the move of introducing English language from the first standard is nothing but a plot of suppressing the cultural interests of the society, he complained.

The said programme was presided over by Dalit leader S R Kollur and the Camp was organized for the members and office bearers of DSS.
