Udupi: Omni-Tanker Collide leaving 7 Injured at Katpady

Udupi, Oct 29: A ghastly accident took place on the National Highway 17 between an Omni car and a tanker in the late hours of the night here on Saturday October 27 injuring seven persons.

According to informed sources, it is understood that there were seven members in the Omni, who had gone to Mangalore for medical treatment and were returning back to Bhatkal when the accident occurred. While on the way back, a tanker coming from the opposite direction lost control and rammed against the Omni car near Katpady. As a result the occupants in the Omni car were seriously injured. 

The injured have been identified as Hussein Makbul Kola (45), his wife Mujabeen (38) and their children Asma (16), Umasalman (11) Fathima Julfa (10), Mohammed Saud (9) and Hussein’s wife's brother Munavar. Since they have been seriously injured they were rushed to a private hospital in the city, for treatment. 

As a result of the accident, there was blockage of NH 17 for about 45 minutes; later the police arrived at the spot and cleared the traffic blockage. 

A case has been registered at Kaup police station and investigation into the said accident has begun.
