Mangalore, Oct 30: Language is the medium to convey messages and expressions; everyone has the right to add any number of words to a language without violating the conventions of the language and not allowing any kind of ambiguity to get into words and expressions, said Dr P Sri Ramana Aital, principal, Srinivas College of PG Management Studies here on Monday October 29.
 
Aithal, was delivering the presidential address at seminar on ‘use of Kannada in media and administration’ organized by city-based ‘Jagruthavahini’ and MSW department, Srinivas College of PG Management Studies at Srinivas College auditorium. 
 
Having love, loyalty towards a language, caring and promoting language is a good habit.  However, it should not instigate one to have a reserved attitude and mean mentality towards other languages.  Moreover there are neither purest forms nor impure forms of language.  Language is an ever developing phenomenon, he added.
 
It is undisputable that Kannada is being widely used in administration all over the state.  The marginalization of Kannada is just a myth. 
  
Life and languages have one-to-one relationship with each other. Language should cater to the needs of the present times. Kannada is still alive in rural areas even this day.  Every language has insecurities, including English, stated Vinayak Bhat Muroor, chief correspondent of leading Kannada daily Vijaya Karnataka.
 
‘Government Kannada’ is a new species, which has been witnessing the ‘slaughter of Kannada’.  There are technical difficulties in administration which has compelled to communicate in English.  Moreover, Kannada can be effectively used at the strategic places in the administration, he gave his version.
 
Every language is meant to express feelings not to impress others which apply to Kannada too. Kannada is alive in kitchens and rural Karnataka as U R Ananthmurthy once said, Kannada minds must blossom and keep their minds open. Journalism may some times need to compromise on language, not because of its helplessness rather to provide room for creativity, Prof Nagaraj Rao Javali, principal, Canara College expounded.
 
Dr Pa Na Mayya, Kannada lecturer, Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work, Hanumanth Kamath, president of Nagarika Hitarakshna Vedike, Bharathi Prasad, head teacher of Rushi Samskruti Matru Mandir and Kollady Balakrishna Rai, president, Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, were the chief guests, were present at seminar.
