Udupi: Konkani Singing, Voveo-Vers Competition held

Udupi, Oct 31: Konkani singing and ‘Voveo-Vers’ competition organized by the Konkani Sangatan of the district and Catholic Sabha of Udupi deanery, was held at the Don Bosco hall here on Sunday October 28.

In all, 125 persons participated in the competition, clearly indicating the level of interest shown by Konkani people towards culture and language. The competetors at the ‘Voveo-Vers’ competition were dressed in bridal costumes such as flowing beautiful saris bedecked in flowers and ornaments.

The results of the competition were as follows:

  • Primary Class: First: Onilla D Souza, Kalmady; Second: Clive Quadros, Moodbelle; Third: Manisha D Souza, Udupi.
  • High School: First: Amruth d Silva, Katpady; Second: Venisha Lobo, Udupi; Third: Mishal D Souza,  Moodbelle.
  • Voveo: First: Katpady Parish group;   Second: Udupi; Third: Moodbelle
  • Consolation:  Kuntalnagar and Kalmady

Dr Gerald Pinto, president of the Konkani Sangatan and Fr Mathew Vas, the vicar forane of Udupi distributed away the prizes. Charles Quadros, president of Udupi deanerywelcomed the gathering. Louis D'Almeida, the secretary and convener of the competition proposed the vote of thanks. Anitha Monis, the joint secretary compered the programme. Konkani Sagatan and Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy both sponsored the prizes.
