Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (KD/NR)

Mangalore, Nov 1: Unorganized sector labourers have been neglected, lamented B Madhava, state committee president of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) here, recently.

Madhava was speaking at a protest meet organized as part of the ‘All-India Demands Day’. According to him, the centre is backpedaling on its promises to provide security to unorganized sector labourers. Further referring to the day-to-day problems faced by labourers, he informed that labourers have been deprived of even the minimum wages and other social security measures, despite the recommendations made by the Arjun Sengupta Committee.

In his opinion, in the country, 93% of the labourers belong to the unorganized sector and   their contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP), being more than 65%. Hence it is imperative that primary laws be extended to them, he demanded.
