Mangalore, Nov 1: The members of Rastra Sevika Samiti, will undertake a torchlight procession on Saturday November 3, from Sri Sharavu Maha Ganapati temple, located at K S Road at 6.30 pm and a rally on Sunday November 11, from Sangha Niketan, located at Mannagudda at 6 a m in the city, Hundi Prabha Kamath, chief of Samiti, informed media persons at the press club here on Thursday November 01.
 
The torchlight procession will begin at Sri Sharavu Maha Ganapati temple and conclude at a public function to be held near Sri Venkataramana temple, located at Car Street, in the city.  Kalpana Bhat, an executive committee member of the local unit will speak on the occasion. The rally will begin from Sangha Niketan premises and move on parallel road located opposite to Gandhi Park, she added.
 
Women are the building blocks of the society.  She is not mere a member of family; as it has been generally perceived, rather she is the guiding light of her family. The Samiti has decided to convey the saga of the woman freedom fighters who laid their lives for the cause of the country. Jansi Rani Lakshmi Bai is just a beginning. The high spirit of ‘the awareness programme’ will not sink as time passes by, she added.
 
The Samiti has seventy-five full-time activists all over India and five full time activists in and around Mangalore. The Samiti's prime objective is directed towards women empowerment, she added.
 
Vedavati J Bhat, city executive, Kumudini, fund-in-charge, Sujatha Shetty, chief activist of local Pratap Nagar and Lakshmi Raghuraj Bhat, other activists of Samiti, were present at the press conference.
