Mangalore, Dec 1: Beginning Saturday, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) customers in Udupi and Mangalore taluks will have to dial the telephone numbers in Bantwal taluk prefixing “958255” to local telephone number.

The Dakshina Kannada telecom district of BSNL will introduce the new dialing system for all numbers in Bantwal taluk with effect from December 1. A press release from T N Sudhindra Kumar, principal general manager, Dakshina Kannada Telecom district, said here on Thursday that hitherto BSNL customers of Mangalore and Udupi were able to dial the telephone numbers of exchanges in Bantwal taluk directly without code.

This move has been necessitated by a sudden surge in industrial activities in and around Mangalore and the resultant spurt in various telephone number level requirements.
