Mysuru, Nov 22: If Sita of Ramayana had devotion on Lord Ram, this Sita of Kaliyuga has devoted her life to Hanuman. M V Sita Lakshmi (85), a resident of Yadavagiri, Mysuru, is the lady who has donated Rs 2 lacs, which she collected by begging and singing Bhajans of Lord Hanuman for over 40 years for the development of Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy temple at Ontikoppal, Mysuru.
Sita Lakshmi is unmarried and lives in her brother's house since 40 years. She used to do household chores till she was healthy. Once she started suffering from age-related health issues, she found solace in the shrine of Lord Hanuman which is inside the said temple at Ontikoppal. She used to sing devotional songs of Lord Hanuman from dawn till dusk sitting in the line of beggars at the entrance of the temple.
Sita Lakshmi used to deposit the money collected by begging in the temple in her bank account. The government also used to give her old-age pension. She informed the temple administration committee of her decision to donate all the money to the development of the temple and gave Rs 2 lac for the noble cause.
The temple administration committee duly recognized her philanthropy and honoured her. Her photo is displayed in the temple premises so that the devotees are aware of her generosity.
It is really heartening to note that in the modern society where people are trying to earn money by dubious means, this lady has sacrificed her life-long savings for the cause of the community.
