Udupi, Jul 27: Pro-farmer programmes launched by the government do not reach our farming community. Informative workshops are therefore planned both at taluk and village level, said Raju Poojary, president, Udupi zilla panchayat, recently.
He was presiding over a workshop held for disseminating information to farmers. Poojary conveyed that similar workshops would be held once in two months at taluk level for the benefits of the farming community. The co-operative department of the government, being a very close active participant of the latter, is going to play a pivotal role in the lives of our farmers, he said.
Sujatha Vaudeva, vice-president, Udupi zilla panchayat, inaugurated the workshop.
Janardhana Tonse, president, standing committee for agriculture and industries, Udupi zilla panchayat, also spoke on the occasion.
Among those present on the podium were S Dinakara Shetty, president, land development bank, Geetha, vice-president, taluk panchayat, Dr Nanda, director, department of horticulture, Basappa, S M Gadhad, joint director, department of agriculture, Dr M K Honnabhyraiah, scientist, Brahmavar agricultural centre, and Sahana Hegde, director, department of horticulture, Kundapur. Ramadas Rai, assistant director, agricultural department, Kundapur, welcomed the gathering while K S Naik, of the same department, monitored the function.
