Udupi, Jul 28: The prevailing situation in the country makes it essential for lawyers to gain more knowledge on medical laws, said K S Phanindra, district Munciff and sessions court judge, on Sunday July 27.
He was speaking at a seminar on medical laws held at Brahmagiri I M A auditorium. The event was jointly organized by district legal services board, Bar association, and Mumbai Dr V V Baliga Trust, in association with KMC Hospital, Manipal.
A lawyer’s profession demands wide knowledge of all matters including medical litigation, opined Phanindra. He also cautioned the lawyers about those medical practitioners who often provide false certificates for court hearings and would then have to be cross-examined.
Dr Sripati Rao, dean of KMC, Manipal, inaugurated the seminar and said that knowledge of medical laws is essential for lawyers as well as familiarity with medical examinations including narco tests. B Shivalinge Gowda, fast track court judge, Udupi, A M Ranachandrayya, civil judge, and Dr R Acharya, trustee, Mumbai Dr V V Baliga Trust, were the chief guests present at the occasion.
Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president, bar association, welcomed the gathering while judge Ravindra, compered the programme.
