Kundapur, Jul 29: Participating as chief guest of a function organized under the auspices of the department of journalism, Bhandarkar’s College here, Dr M V Kamath, ex-chairman of Prasar Bharathi pointed out to the journalism students of the college that journalists basically, have got to learn how to pose questions to the leaders in any field and that they ought to develop a penchant for interrogating them and elicit information that would enlighten the public.

Dr M V Kamath was participating in the programmes organized to observe the Journalism Day, including book release. He also asserted that a journalist should have deep knowledge in the language he deals in, as he would be able to properly reach out to thousands of readers and be able to convey what he wants to, only if has a proper command over the language. Besides, he can improve his command over English only through reading English poetry and the Bible. Kamath, himself a student of science, was attracted to the profession of journalism, because of its magnetic charm which helped him get lot of knowledge and experience. He shared his experience of pre and post Independence days with the students, in the role a professional journalist. Dr H Shantharam, administrator, Academy of General Education Manipal presided over the function.

A book on journalism and translation published by the college, a collection of short stories by Prof Parvati J Aithal and a book on Leela Karant authored by Prof Rekha V Bannadi were released on the occasion. Seema compered the programme. Sandeep welcomed the gathering. Sphoorti introduced the chief guest and Sandhya proposed vote of thanks.
