Mangalore, Jul 29: Speaking at a press conference held after holding a meeting with hoteliers, hospital heads, bank executives, businessmen and officials of various departments at the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) here on Monday July 28 evening, superintendent of police(SP) Satheesh Kumar and DC M Maheshwar Rao have said that the district administration has been doing everything within its command to ensure that no untoward incident including terrorism related ones, occur in Dakshina Kannada district. It has been decided to install closed circuit televisions (CCTV) at railway stations, mega malls and commercial complexes, banks, airport and main roads of the city within a month as a step towards achieving this objective, they explained.
Commercial complexes, banks, religious centres, restaurants and hospitals have been asked to install the CCTVs on their own. CCTVs will be installed at main traffic circles and other strategic spots by the department. For managing them, a separate control room will be set up. This centre will not only observe developments through various CCTVs but also record the happenings. These CCTVs also will help in getting information about density of traffic and criminal activities, the SP explained.
Security guards posted at various commercial complexes and other sensitive places will be trained about the ways and means to detect and keep vigil on suspicious persons and things. Police stations under which these establishments are located, will attend to the training requirements, he added.
The police department has deployed sufficient staff for collecting intelligence information. Patrolling has been taken up. The district police department has been geared up to meet any eventuality, he said.
The state has been equipped with one of the best cyber crime detection department in the country. Hence, if cyber crimes are detected, such cases will be handed over to them, the SP narrated.
