M'lore: St Aloysius College Football Team Bags Independence Cup

Mangalore, Aug 16: The football team of St Aloysius College bagged the Independence Cup by defeating team B of their own college, on Friday, August 15. The score was 4–2 in the final tie-up of the football competition held at Nehru Maidan, organized by Dakshina Kannada (DK) District Football Association.

The team from Rosario Pre-University College who were the defending champions in their category, defeated the St Aloysius Pre University College team this year too with a score of 2–0. Karavali College bagged the top slot in this category.

Bharati English Medium High School, Ullal, topped their segment, defeating Rosario High School by one goal in a tie breaker. Infant Jesus Joyland, Bolar, bagged the Syndicate Bank Independence Cup, defeating Lourdes High School, Bejai, with a score of 2–0 in the girls' division.

Sharada Higher Primary School, bagged the Corporation Bank Independence Cup, defeating Bharati Higher Primary School, Ullal, by one goal in the girls division. Ganesh Rao, chairman,  Karavali Group of Colleges, distributed the prizes during the concluding ceremony on Friday.

Ravi S Shetty, senior manager of Union Bank and S B S football trainer, as well as Ranganath,  president, Mangalore City Corporation steering committee, were present on the occasion. Ashwita D Shetty, who was chosen for the national women's team was felicitated on the occasion.

D M Assam, president, DK District Football Association, Anil P V, treasurer, and entrepreneur Satish Baikampady were also present. Mohammed Husain Bolar, association chief secretary, welcomed the gathering. Vijay Suvarna, member, State Football Association, compered the programme.
