M'lore: World War I Veteran Casmir Menezes Felicitated by DK Ex-Servicemen’s Association

Mangalore, Aug 17: The Dakshina Kannada (DK) District Ex-Servicemen’s Association felicitated World War I naval veteran,85-year-old Casmir Menezes,at St Aloysius College golden jubilee auditorium, on Friday, August 15.


Yogish Bhat,MLA, felicitated Menezes with a shawl and a bouquet. The war veteran has bagged several awards for meritorious service including the gallantry award, 'Jangi Inam' in 1939, 45 star, Burma star, war medal, and Indian service award, during his stint with the British and Indian navies.

The gathering of ex-servicemen first offered a silent prayer for the school students who perished in the Ulaibettu bus tragedy. The gathering also celebrated Independence day.

    The person first from left in the top most photograph is Mr Casmir Menezes, my Father. He is 86 years old and is a World War II veteran.

    According to your report naval veteran Mr.Casmir Menezes is 85 years old. First Word War ended in 1919. It's been 89 years now since the war.Am I reading his age right?

    Glad to hear about this felicitation. Isn't there a typo error here? Casmir Menezes would have to be over 100 years of age to be a World War I veteran!
