Udupi: Nephews Stab Uncle to Death near Kaup - Both Arrested

Udupi, Aug 21: Two people have been arrested for allegedly murdering a person at Kaup Beedu Badi near here.

The body of Shivaram Poojari (66), a resident of Kollakka was found in well at Beedu Badi near Kaup on Sunday August 17. The police investigation revealed that the suspicious death was murder. Following this, two persons were arrested by the police after detailed investigation. The arrested have been identified as Pramod Bangera (36) and Mahesh Bangera (32), who are the close relatives of the deceased.

The accused said to have stabbed Shivaram Poojari eight times and dumped him into the well on August 16. The family members of deceased started to search after he did not come home even on the next day. It is said that accused also were helping the family members in searching him and they only informed that the body was found in well in the evening.

Kaup police raided Babi Bangera's house after receiving an anonymous call that accused were planning to cremate the body after murdering a person at Kaup. Police sent body to Manipal Forensic department for postmortem which revealed that Shivaram was murdered. 

Shivaram Poojari was working abroad for 35 years and had settled at Beedu Badi a couple of years ago. It is said that deceased had no good relationship with his sister Babi Bangera and her sons Pramod and Mahesh.

Meanwhile, some residents opined that it is a suicide case. Pramod, one of the accused was supposed to leave abroad on August 21. It is said that Shivaram Poojari had challenged that he will not allow Pramod to go abroad.

Kaup police are investigating the case.
