Mangalore: Vishwa Konkani Divas Celebrated

Mangalore, Aug 21: The Vishwa Konkani Divas was celebrated at Loyola Hall in St Aloysius PU College here on Wednesday August 20. The programme was jointly organized by Konkani Bhasha Mandal Karnataka, Lions, Lioness and Leo Club in memory of Constitutional status awarded to the Konkani language.

Vidya G Pai, president of Lioness Club and businessman Santhosh Sequeira inaugurated the programme.

 

K Mohan Kamath, district Governor of Lions Club, in his speech said that Konkani has abundant vocabulary, Konkanis should speak Konkani in respect and love. Fr Eric Crasta, president Konkani Bhasa Mandal who presided over the function informed that Konkani quiz is being conducted since last three years for school and college students.

As many as 8 high schools and 3 colleges participated in the quiz competition. St Philomenah high school, Puttur and St Agnes College have bagged first prize in high school and the college level respectively.

Dr Meera Aranha, DGM of Karnataka Bank, Ranganath Kini, president of City Corporation standing committee and Vithoba Bhandarkar, president Lions Club were chief guests of the programme.

Geetha C Kini, secretary, Konkani Bhasha Mandal proposed vote of thanks. Tony Feros, Pacchu Ferar, M R Kamath and Flora Casthaleno were quiz masters.

Winners:

High School level: 1. Calvin Mascarenhas and Jostin D'Costa, St Philomena High School Puttur. 2. Fiyona Mascarenhas and Fayal D'Souza, St Victor's High school Puttur. 3. Flavia D'Souza and Preeti Andrade, Shri Sharada High school Panemangalore.

College level: 1. Bina Rodrigues and Gracilla Crasta, St Agnes College 2. Deepak Seth and Tarun Seth, Canara College 3. Deepthi Monis and Anil Fernandes, Sacred Heart College Madantyar.
