Karkala, Aug 22: A 21-year-old Evangeline, who had recently married and residing in Kodangal near here, was found hanging in her residence on the evening of Thursday August 21. She died on the way to hospital.

Evangeline from Tamneri in Tamil Nadu and her husband Rajamani alias Mutturajan were engaged in preparing and selling snacks with the help of an assistant, at their residence near here. Sources said that Evangeline’s marriage was solemnized about one and a half month ago.

It is suspected that Evangeline took advantage of the absence of the assistant and her husband and tried to commit suicide by closing the windows and doors of her residence. Her husband and a relative Shekhar brought her to a hospital in Moodbidri at about 7 pm on Thursday. Rajamani immediately left the hospital in the guise of arranging for money for her treatment but never returned till late night. The policemen are trying to convey the news of her death to her relatives with help from Shekhar.

Investigations are on. Reasons that compelled the lady to resort to this extreme step are not yet known.
