Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (RD/CN)

Karkala, Aug 22: The local unit of the BJP staged a 'jail bharo' on Thursday, August 21, against the Jammu and Kashmir government for revoking the land allotment to the Amarnath Shrine Board. BJP activists staged a protest at the bus stand, the main roads and blocked roads.

The protestors were arrested on the spot by the police. BJP senior leader Bola Prabhakar Kamath, addressing the protesters, said that the land was sanctioned by the Jammu and Kashmir government to improve infrastructure for the hundreds of thousands of Hindu pilgrims to the Amarnath shrine. However, the government has withdrawn this decision under pressure from fundamentalists, he alleged.

Kamath urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to reconsider its decision. BJP block president Bola Sadashiv Shetty, secretary Purushottam Rao, municipal councilor Nityanand Pai, municipal opposition leader lawyer Navinchandra Hegde, municipal members Prakash Rao, Sunil Kotian, Suresh Madival, Ravindra Shetty Bajagoli, Vivekanand Shenoy, Suresh Bhat Nitte, and Divakar Shetty Borgalgudde, were involved in the protest.
