Udupi, Aug 23: State minister for food, civil supplies, and consumer affairs, Haratal Halappa, while on a visit to the district, held a meeting with department officers here at the deputy  commissioner’s office on Friday, August 22. He also visited the city consumers' forum.

Speaking to media persons at circuit house here on Friday, he said that photo BPL cards were already distributed in all areas under Karkala taluk, in Udupi district, and it would be completed by September 30 across Udupi. When compared to other districts in the state, Udupi has fared well on BPL cards. All BPL cards are set to be distributed by October 31 in other districts across the state.

There are 334 fair price (ration) shops in Udupi district and 12 are not keeping their daily schedule. The latest BPL list will be displayed in every ration shop and one information centre will be set up in every district, added Halappa.

MLA Raghupaty Bhat, Third Pay Commission chairman A G Kodgi, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, municipal councilor Dinakar Shetty, zilla panchayat president Raju Poojary, and DC Hemalata P were present.
