Udupi, May 15: Three persons, who were accused of obstructing police officials from discharging their duties were held guilty by the additional JMFC court here. It handed down jail term and fine to the guilty.
Bhoja Kanchan, Ravi Kunder and Nagesh Kunder from Kalmady in Kodavoor village have been sentenced for the above crime.
At11.25 pm on May 31, 2014, the then traffic police sub-inspector, Mahadevappa Diddimane, along with some other personnel, was checking vehicles at Kalmady within Malpe police station limits. At that time, the three persons named above were passing by the road in three motor bikes, in an inebriated condition and speaking among them loudly. When the sub-inspector stopped them, they tried to attack him by questioning him about his right to check vehicles at this unearthly hour.
The then deputy superintendent of police, Annamalai, who was on patrol at the time, arrived at the spot, The accused did not care for him too and pulled at the breath analyzer machine in the hands of the sub-inspector in an effort to damage it, and obstructed police officials. On the basis of complaint made by Annamalai, a complaint was lodged in Malpe police station. The then police circle inspector here, Srikanth K, investigated the case and filed charge sheet in the court.
Judge of the court, Manjunath M S, after conducting hearing and listening to evidences, supplemental evidence, arguments and counter arguments, came to the conclusion that the charges leveled against the accused were proved. He held them guilty under section 353 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and sentenced them to six months of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1,000 each.
