Mangaluru, May 19: The meteorological department has predicted monsoon to enter Kerala on May 29 this year.
On an average, the people believe that monsoon makes its appearance on June 1. But a view of the happenings during the last some years reveals that the entry of monsoon has either been deferred or advanced by around a week as against the prediction.
The department has said that this time, monsoon will appear three days in advance. The department expects monsoon wind to pass through Andaman Island in Bay of Bengal on May 23 and reach Kerala on May 29.
In the meanwhile, the cyclonic storm titled 'Sagar' created out of fall in atmospheric pressure over Arabian Sea has been moving towards the Gulf. At the same time, the department said there is possibility of another low pressure area being created over the sea. However, scientist of Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, Prof S M Gavaskar, said that the rain currently being experienced in Karnataka has nothing to do with this cyclone, adding that this cyclonic storm will not have any effect on coastal Karnataka. He said that a clear picture about the new low pressure area being created over the sea will emerge in a couple of days.
