Puttur: Raids on Illegal Quarries - Implements Seized, Cases Booked

Puttur, Sep 13: Acting on complaints of illegal quarrying of laterite stone at various places of the taluk, tahsildar Venkateshaiah along with his staff, raided several sites in Ariyadka, Badagannur, Nettanige Mudnoor and Nidpalli villages where illegal quarrying was going on.

Various implements including stone cutting machine were seized. Cases have been booked against Poovappa Poojary, Navin and Sudhakar Shetty for illegal quarrying on Friday September 12.

The officials have identified three places of Paduvannur village, four spots in Nettanige Mudnoor village, two places in Badagannur village and some places of Irde, Olamogaru, Balnad, Surve and Keyyyur villages as prone to illegal quarrying. The quarrying is being undertaken both in government and private lands.

The gram panchayats had passed resolution against illegal quarrying and drawn the notice of the tahsildar towards them in the past.
