Udupi: DC Holds Hope of Sorting Out Highway Repair Issue Before September 27

Udupi, Sep 14: Actvities of Heddari Ulisi Horata Samiti staged dharna in front of the office of the deputy commisioner here on Friday Septmber 12, protesting against the apathy being shown towards repairing national highway stretch between Kallianpur and Sasthan, which is full of craters and potholes. The Samiti has already warned, that it will take up the voluntary repair of this stretch of the road for five days from September 27, with the help of various organizations and activists, if the government fails to restore this part of the highway by then.

Committee convenor B Govindaraj Hegde, through a memorandum submitted to the deputy commisioner Hemalatha, asked the district administration to issue an order banning vehicular movement on this stretch of the road during the repair period, as stated above.

District deputy commissioner Hemalata said, that she hopes for the issue to be resolved before September 27. The zilla panchayat has already asked the concerned to repair this road, and the district administration plans to meet the officials of the National Highways Authority to redress the grievances of the road users, she said. BJP leader Suprasad Shetty said, that closing of this stretch of the road for a few days would not give rise to much of a problem, as alternative roads are available for the road users.

Vijay Kumar Hegde, C Vijay Hegde, B Sudhakar Shetty, Bhujanga Shetty, K Damodar Aithal and others were present.
