Mangalore, Sep 17: Hundreds of agitated Christian women, who suffered during the caning of people gathered at various church premises by the policemen had come to the Circuit House in the city on the morning of Wednesday September 17, to complain to the National Commission for Women(NCW) chairperson Girija Vyas about the police high-handedness and the failure of the district administration. They mobbed the state home minister Dr V S Acharya, as soon he arrived at the Circuit House here, for holding discussions with the NCW chairperson.

Girija Vyas had stayed at the Circuit House overnight after arriving in the city and visiting a few places. The home minister had come to the Circuit House to participate in a discussion with her, when the incident occured. The home minister was later, escorted by the policemen into the Circuit House.
