Udupi: Three More Self Help Groups Get Involved with Garbage Disposal

Udupi, Sep 18: Three Ape auto tippers were handed over by the municipality here to women's self help groups on Wednesday September 17, for the purpose of garbage collection. MLA K Raghupati Bhat, municipal president Dinkar Shetty Herga, vice-president Indira Shekhar and councillor Yashpal Suvarna symbolically handed over the auto tippers by riding on them for a short distance.

Representatives of Kadiyali Jananinagar Stree Shakti Self Help Group, Puttur Sphoorti Nirantara Ulitaya Sangha and Gundibail Vinayaka Navodaya Self Help Group were present on the occasion.

At present, eight self help groups are engaged in the door-to-door collection of garbage in 19 out of a total of 35 municipal wards here. The said auto trucks have been provided with 50% grant from KUDCEMP while the balance 50% is met by self help groups through bank loans.

The municipality has entered into an agreement with the self help groups for maintaining the tippers. The municipality also proposes to gradually hand over the remaining wards in which private agencies are engaged in collecting of garbage now, to self help groups in course of time.

    What garbage we are talking about. Garbage dumped in one area in near udupi stinks like hell. where will it go. new place. Lets see something working out
