Udupi: Heddari Ulisi Horata Samiti Withdraws Protest

Udupi, Sep 18: Relying on the National Highway Authority's assurance that it would be taking up the highway repair work from September 20 onwards, Heddari Ulisi Horata Samiti has on Wednesday September 17, withdrawn its proposed protest programme scheduled for September 20.

A meeting was earlier chaired by the district deputy commissioner P Hemalata with the National Highways department engineer O K Swamy and regional officer Gangadhar on the issue. The officials agreed to release Rs 2 crore for the reconstruction of the 1.8 kms stretch of the road and also repairing of 13 kms of the badly damaged highway between Sastan and Kallianpur Santhekatte. The officials also said that a proposal for upgradation of the entire road at a cost of Rs 13 crore and also another proposal to repair the highway stretch near Padubidri at a cost of Rs 5.67 crore were pending with the ministry.

The Samiti convener Govindaraj Hegde who was present at the meeting, presented a memorandum of road users, to the concerned.
