Bangalore, Sep 18: Vishwanathaiah, working as the chief jail superintendent of Parappana Agrahara jail in the city, has been charged by one of the jail inmates, of assault with lethal weapons. A case has been booked against him in this regard.

It is said that Manjunatha alias Mysore Manja, undergoing imprisonment in the said jail after being convicted in a case, had gone near the main gate of the jail on September 1. He says, he wanted to complain to the chief jail superintendent relating to some problems he was facing there. He said, the officer, instead of lending an ear to him, tied him up with a chain and mercilessly beat up with a stick.

Manja was later admitted to NIMHANS hospital in the city with serious injuries. Sub-inspector Ramesh, who had visited the hospital after Manja recovered, for recording his statement on the incidents leading to his injuries, was made known of what had transpired.

The police have since booked a case under Indian Penal Code section 324 against Vishwanathaiah.
