Udupi, Sep 19: The thieves, continuing with a spree of day-light thefts, struck at a house located by the side of national highway 17 at Muloor near Kaup, opposite Narayanaguru Hall on Wednesday September 17.  They took away cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 60,000 from the house of Chandrakanth Kamath, who works as manager of Kaup Hale Mariamma temple.

In addition to around eight sovereigns of gold ornaments, cash amounting to Rs 5,000 was taken away by burglars.

It is suspected, that the theft occured between 9.15 am and 1.15 pm, the time when no one was at home. The thieves seemed to be aware of the fact that no one was present at the time.

The thieves are said to have gained entry into the house, by breaking open the back doors of the house and stole the things after breaking open the steel almirah in the bed room with the help of a sickle. The stolen things included two golden bangles, pearl necklace and bracelet of the child.

The burglary came to light when Chandrakant Kamath and Jyothilakshmi came to have lunch in the afternoon. The police were contacted immediately. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were also pressed into service. The sniffer dog moved towards the highway through the rear-side thicket, giving indications that locals were involved.
