M'lore: Conversions Taking Place at Negligible Size - D V Sadanand Gowda

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 19: Speaking over phone from Manipal, where his son Karthik Gowda, an engineering student, is being treated after being critically injured in a road accident recently, BJP state unit president D V Sadanand Gowda admitted that the unexpected attacks in the city and elsewhere have embarrassed the government and provided the opponents of the BJP with issues to attack the government. This should never have happened, he opined.

The government would have earned the confidence of the people concerned, if it had taken immediate steps to control the situation affectively, after the incidents. The prompt action by the government would have enabled the government to assertively repulse the criticisms of its detractors, he added.

Gowda said that he does not condone the actions of either the New Life or the Bajrangdal in this case. The Bajrangdal should not have violated law. If at all it had found something wrong, it should have brought the evidence to the notice of the authorities concerned. Aggressiveness cannot solve problems, Gowda asserted.

Destructive behaviour on the part of anyone including the government cannot be justified. If at all conversion is taking place, it is of a negligible size, he opined. Attacking the Catholic churches was utterly wrong. People who are involved with illegal activities should be handed over to the police. Attacks on centres of prayer cannot be justified at any cost, BJP state president stressed.

Gowda also opined that the attack on the Adoration Monastery in Mangalore most likely, is a case of mistaken identity as the perpetrators of vandalism perhaps, were not conversant with various groups within the Catholics. Other political parties, particularly the Congress, have tried to reap political benefits out of Orissa situation. Now too, the statements made by the Congress leaders were unwarranted, he felt.

Dear Mr. Gowda, There is Anticonversion Law in five states in India. So far there is not a single conversion case convicted in the court as per this law.If at all conversion is there (To get dignity and human rights by tribals/SC/STs after casteist slavery of thousand of years)at individual level, they have to sign Affidavits with witnesses and then only get converted and it is absolutely as per law and the religious freedom granted to the individual, by our constituition.

It is not deceitful conversion as proclaimed by so called learned and "Doctor" home minister V.S.Acharya during T.V. news ch. interview, immediateful after the law and order problem in Mangalore. The christian population is decreasing from 2.7% to 2.5% over a period of 10 years. Is it a proof of negligible conversion?

I am feeling so nice to note that so many Catholics are praying for Karthik Gowda son of D.V. Sadanand Gowda. This is the spirit of love and compassion. I am sure the prayers of so many people must have had a change of heart on some of these people who had totally misunderstood the Catholics and the Catholic Church. We are having a special Mass today at 3 PM at Don Bosco Shrine, Nairobi for true peace and harmony in Mangalore and other parts of our country. We shall surely pray for the speedy recovery of Karthik. May God Bless Mangalore. May God Bless our great country India.

Dear Sadananda Gowda, a slight U-turn in your stand. Plate is playing little bit reverse. May be difficulties to the near and dear ones makes one think good about fellow human being. Noboby can force good thinking on others. It is upto an individual whether he wants be Ram or Ravan. If a man becomes Ram it is good for him and the society. Leaving the differences aside, we wish speedy recovery of your son.

First of all some accontable statement from a leader. However we should (along with our government) find out the root cause for such incidents and if anybody involved with wrong doings (disturbing the Communal harmony in any way) should be punished irrespective of his/her Caste, Religion & faith by the government. Mr. Chief Minister & compnay you have an opportunity now to prove that you and your team are different from our our previous governments, utilize it and make sure each and every citizen of our state (even country)remember you for the good things you have done and say proudly "Yuddi" we love you and we are with you forever . We lost hope on Congress and Janatha Dal who have ruled us for past 59 years and not done expected improvements in common man's life (My opinion we lost almost a generation due to these bad rulers).

It is absolutely wrong on the part of BJP to patronize such attacks on christians. We are peace loving, yes, but the time has come to protest vehemently. We are praying to God to bestow his blessings in whatever form possible. We are praying for your son's speedy recovery. Kartik, get well soon.

Thanks Mr Sadananda Gowda for showing true leadership at the time of blind despair. You will be respected by the peace loving and law abiding citizens of D K and Udupi for the great courage and kindness. We will be praying for the speedy recovery of your son Karthik. Hope others too will emulate your leadership, this country needs builders and not bull dozers. How come Mr.Dhananjaya Kumar could be so indifferent in his interview in TV9 to the pain of his own fellow Mangaloreans by justifying the acts of attack on the Adoration monastry and other places?

Yes Mr. Mallya We need more moderate people like you to come out openly and condemn these unfortunate instances. People who use religion as their hand tool to extend their vote bank polities must be defeated else we all proudly Mangaloreans will lose our peaceful MANGALORE forever.

Dear Mr Gowda could you provide exact statistics of conversions around Mangalore please. Negligible is a very vague term. We want to know how many Hindus converted to Catholics in the past 6 months. Also can we know the percentage increase of catholics and hindus to the total population in the last two years. You political leaders are misleading the citizens with false propoganda and lies. Unfortunately many of our educated citizens beleieve in your bullshit. We hope and pray that your son will recover fully.

Mr Gowda, it is really a shame on us Hindu's. To be frank we are here working at Gulf, we are feeling shame and we dont have any gutsy face in front of our Christian and Muslim brothers. The way we advertised BJP before elctions, it is now we are receiving the moral feelings like we have committed a big mistake that every one was looking for a change in the Govt and given a chance to BJP.

Meanwhile we are also with you at this days and pray for the speedy recovery of your Son.
