Mangalore: Rainfall Resumes with Vengeance across Coastal Belt

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Sep 20: The rains, which had retreated since the last few days, returned with added fury since the early hours on Friday September 19. Almost all the places in the twin districts apart from hinter lands received rains.

Kundapur accounted for seven cms of rain. Karkala received six cms of rain while most of the other places got about four cms of rain. Rains that lashed Karkala throughout the intervening night between Thursday and Friday threw the normal life of citizens out of gear. Low-lying areas in the town were inundated for some time. Because of the heavy rains, effluents spilled over on the roads from drains at several places.

The meteorological department has predicted that rains will continue in most of the coastal Karnataka and some of the interior places during the next 48 hours. Farmers are particularly worried about the intensity of the rain, which has resumed after a brief lull.
